Meet the Staff with James Webb

As the youngest member of the Transmit team, James Webb is our Administrations Assistant. And with a successful sales background, James enjoys the diverse nature of his work with Transmit Start-Ups. We caught a few minutes with James to find out what he gets up to throughout his working day and his thoughts on the work that Transmit do.

What is your current position at Transmit Start-Ups? Tell us a little about your role and what it entails.

My current role at Transmit Start-Ups is an Administration Assistant and on a day to day basis I am responsible for the initial processing of registration forms from applicants. I also ensure that in the early stages of the application process all communications to applicants are clear and data is input to our systems accurately. When we are involved in local events such as ‘Taking Care of Business’ I often help out with setting up and assisting attendees with where they need to be.

What does a typical day at Transmit Start-Ups look like for you?

In order to be pro-active in my role at Transmit in the morning my first port of call is to organise my list of tasks for the day in priority order.  This helps me ensure that everything is done to the correct timescales and that clients are not left waiting.  It also helps my co-workers with organising their lists and preparing for the next stage in the client’s journey, once I have completed my tasks I tick them off a list that I create to ensure nothing is overlooked.

What is your background prior to joining Transmit Start-Ups and what made you decide to join the company?

Before I joined Transmit Start-Ups, I started off doing a lot of independent buying and selling which I got a good reputation for.  I was offered quite a few jobs selling products which I was very successful at. The reason that made me join Transmit Start-Ups was the fact that although I’m quite young myself I still wanted to give something back and help in the process of giving people the opportunity to set up their own businesses, where previously this may not have been possible.

What do you like to do away from the office to relax, do you have any hobbies or other interests?

When I am outside of the office I like to lead a very active life including going to the gym and taking part in extreme sports such as kayaking. I also like to read non-fiction books when I manage to grab 5 minutes’ free time.

What is it about working with start-ups that you like?

The reason I like working with start-ups is seeing the final outcome, from having processed an initial enquiry form all the way to seeing a client being very successful in what they’re doing, or even just the sense of accomplishment you feel from the client when they have reached their dream of setting up their own business.

If you could give one tip to a Start Up Loan applicant what would it be?

If I could give one piece of advice to a client it would be ‘Carpe Diem’ – if you want to do something go for it, I personally feel this will be the best decision you’ll make.
