Transmit Start-Ups Ltd was set up with sole purpose of delivering the Government’s Start Up Loans programme. It provides finance, support and mentoring to new and existing entrepreneurs aged 18 and over and is one of only a few National Delivery Partners covering England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
We work with hundreds of fantastic entrepreneurs every year and receive around 500 applications every month for this popular startup programme. The three directors have run their own companies over the last 25 years – some successes and some failures – and understand the challenges of starting and growing a business!

Damian has worked for over 10 years within the creative industries and business enterprise sector, including running his own music businesses. In his previous employment Damian oversaw a regional business support programme.
Robert is a founding director of the North East’s leading actors agency and was a director, actor and producer at a touring theatre company. He is a manager of social enterprise start-up programmes and has mentored small businesses for over 20 years.
Tony worked as a Business Link adviser then started his own businesses – a print company and a business that provided credit card payment solutions for the SME sector. Tony helps applicants develop their business plans to be ready to submit for loan funding.
Brenda specialises in Business Planning, Start Ups, Funding, Training and Mentoring, she has 11 years experience helping clients wanting to start a business by providing guidance, counselling in the preparation of business plans, financial forecasting and supporting applications for funding.
Michelle is based at our office in Glasgow and works directly with several of our Scottish applicants. She formerly worked for Jobs & Business Glasgow and has a wealth of experience helping businesses to start up and grow.
Hina has provided Business Support for over 25 years, working across all sectors. Helping businesses & individuals with business start up mentoring, strategic business planning, marketing & sales strategy, financial & project management planning and developing business development plans for growth.
Carole joined Transmit in February 2016 after working as Enterprise Coach and Business Advisor for a local charity. She helps a diverse range of clients including people with mental and physical disabilities, offenders, long term unemployed to realise their dreams of setting up their own business.
Sharon works alongside Carole to help clients with their Start Up Loan applications. She previously worked at a bank and merchant acquirer, working with both start-ups and multinationals, before moving to a charity to provide loans to start-up businesses.
After many years in business Ralph knows what works and what doesn’t; how to put things right and make them work better. As a business advisor, he works with SMEs to identify key issues and deliver quick wins to get cash in the bank. Longer term, he builds trusted professional relationships, providing long term support and ensuring business success.
Morag is passionate about helping businesses to start up and grow. She is an experienced business adviser, business owner, and coach and believes that personal development and motivation are two key elements essential for entrepreneurs today.
Julie works alongside Julie Skevington to help clients with their Start Up Loan applications. She has previously spent 30 years working as a Commercial Relationship Director for HSBC, assisting a wide spectrum of businesses during this period including start ups and businesses looking to expand and grow.
Andrew is a focused and professional Business Advisor who delivers practical business advice and support. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and has a wealth of experience gained in blue chip companies and national and regional government.
Ian set up his first business in 2005 at the age of 25 and has subsequently expanded to running three different companies. He is a trained mentor and regularly works with brand new businesses in the creative sector and more widely.
Rachael oversees and manages the administrative, credit and client service tasks. She also ensures that everything is in place for our Start Up Loan applicants and all the staff at Transmit Towers. She also runs her own photography and design business.
Rosa works with our partners to assist them and their clients with loan applications. She is the first point of contact for any questions that partners have and ensures that everything is running smoothly. Rosa also looks after our mentoring programme, assigning applicants to our team of mentors.
Joy works directly with applicants during the early stages of an application and alongside our team of business advisors. As the most organised person in the Transmit office, Joy always knows exactly what is needed and by when. She also runs her own handmade crafts business.
Wendy works on the various business support programmes and mentoring offered at Transmit. She has previously worked for the National Apprenticeship Service as well as managing customer service teams and she runs her own small business selling soap and scarves.
Keith works at Transmits front end, dealing directly with applicants during the early stages of an application, assisting with registrations, eligibility and all aspects of customer service. He is one of the friendly voices that you will hear on the end of the phone. Keith also plays bass in a local North East band.
Tamara works directly with applicants during the early stages of the application process. She handles the initial registrations, ensures that applicants are eligible and also answers our online customer queries. Tamara is another of the friendly voices you will hear on the end of the phone.
Richard set up his first business at the age of 19, without any formal business training, and has been self-employed ever since. He regularly runs business growth workshops and has mentored dozens of businesses over the last 5 years.
Mark has over 25 years experience of working for multi national companies in engineering and health care in a sales and management capacity, more recently as a start up himself offering business support, services and mentoring to micro businesses.
Chloe joined Transmit after a very successful work placement during the summer of 2016 and works part time while finishing her degree in English Literature at Newcastle University. Chloe assists with specific projects to help us research and develop new products.
Julie has many years experience in banking, commercial finance and business support, having worked for HSBC for 15 years and as Growth Manager for Growth Accelerator. Julie advises businesses on the best types of finance, from traditional sources to alternative finance options.
As an entrepreneur, speaker and consultant, Joel has over 15 years business experience of mentoring, training and diversity management. He is also a non-executive director and trustee of other organisations and was awarded an OBE for Services to Business Support and Enterprise.
Dan is a digital media specialist that brokers partnerships, projects and investment and has over 25 years international commercial experience. He has worked with a number of technology companies from across the UK, Europe and the US and currently works with the Business Shaper Group helping companies get to market internationally.
Tony is a qualified auditor and comes from a business background including retail, hospitality and finance. As an experienced Business Adviser Tony has supported businesses from start up through to maturity. Planning and operational efficiency are key interests.
Sharon has worked with Chambers of Commerce for 13 years and runs training programmes on Effective Business Networking. She also helps businesses claim tax relief for Research, Development and Innovation.
David has a wealth of experience in the business world. He successfully operated for many years at a senior level in the retail and sales and marketing sectors before moving into management training. David also knows what it takes to start and build a franchise business. He has managed major projects involving groups of franchisees and provided recruitment services for franchisors.
