Meet the Staff with Sophie Cooke

HOME / / Meet the Staff with Sophie Cooke

We’re having a natter with another member of Team Transmit today. Sophie Cooke is our Administrative Assistant and one of our bubbliest staff fixtures! She makes up part of the Operations Team, seeing to the day-to-day necessities of Transmit HQ, and enjoying the challenging hustle and bustle of the office. She tells us a little more about her role and what her days look like…

What is your current position at Transmit Start-Ups? Tell us a little about your role and what it entails.
I am an Administrative Assistant at Transmit Start Ups. I handle the incoming applications and see that the application process runs as smoothly as possible.
What does a typical day at Transmit Start-Ups look like for you?
A typical day for me begins with processing our new applicants. Then throughout the day I’ll keep in touch with applicants who are going through the process to see if they have any questions, as well as perform our day to day administrative tasks.
What is your background prior to joining Transmit Start-Ups and what made you decide to join the company?
Prior to starting at Transmit, I worked as a Film Tour Guide at Alnwick Castle, where I gave tours around the castle and talked about productions that filmed there, such as Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Black Adder. I decided to join Transmit because I wanted to experience working in a new sector and I think that helping small businesses is a very rewarding thing to do.
What do you like to do away from the office to relax, do you have any hobbies or other interests?
I’m part of a Gilbert & Sullivan society, I enjoy singing and have directed several shows.
What is it about working with start-ups that you like?
I find working with start ups rewarding because it gives everyday people the opportunity to change their lives for the better. Having the freedom to start your own business from scratch and be your own boss is such an exciting prospect and it’s great to work with such enthusiastic people.
If you could give one tip to a Start Up Loan applicant what would it be?
It would be to just go for it! If you have a great idea and you’re passionate about what you’re trying to do, then there is no harm in applying.
If you’re thinking about setting up your own business or need any advice or questions answered on the start-up process, give us a call or drop us an email, we’d love to hear from you!
